Head of the Indonesian Gold Medal Attaining Program management section, Hadi Wihardja said here on Friday that the country has recruited Huang Qianghui and his assistant Liu Linqin to step up the national team achievement in this year`s SEA Games and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
According to Hadi, Huang Qianghui entrusted Liu Linqin, the China`s former weight lifting athlete, in effort to apply the sport science in improving the Indonesia`s weight-lifters` quality.
"Liu is expected to raise achievement of the national team, for instance `we have never grabbed the SEA Games gold medal in 85kg class`. So we are trying reach that opportunity," Hadi noted.
Hadi said further that Huang (83), the former world weight-lifting champion (1958-1959) was believed to be able to pay attention to the country`s athletes talent to develop the achievement.
In addition, Huang was once successful in training 10 China`s weight-lifters to become world champions, Hadi said, explaining actually Huang had ever been entrusted to train Indonesia`s team from 1988 through 1995 and brought the national team to SEA Games.
However, Huang then returned to China to become the sport consultant and sought fresh athletes in a number provinces to be trained.
Although Huang had returned to Beijing, he still kept contact with Indonesian coach and athletes, he said.
In 2012, Huang even once handled the training of Indonesian national team for a month prior to London Olympics, where Triyatno in 69kg and Eko Yuli in 62kg eventually grabbed silver and bronze medals respectively in the London Olympics.
After 18 years, Huang now returns to Indonesia to fully train the national athletes. When asked about his coming back to Indonesia, Huang simply said "because I was born here".
Huang, who once lived in Indonesian for 22 years commented that Indonesia has good fresh athletes, but they should be well trained to become world champions.
