Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Densus 88 police and five suspected terrorists were involved in a shootout on Wednesday when members of the Anti-Terror Unit raided a rented house in Kopo area, Bandung, to arrest the suspected terrorists.

"They resisted the police when they were to be arrested and were involved in a shootout in a house in Kopo Bandung area, West Java. We predicted that there are five suspected terrorists inside the house," National Police Chief Gen Timur Pradopo said at the Presidential Office here on Wednesday.

The shootout took place near a residential area forcing the apparatuses to evacuate residents to safer places.

"The local residents are now being evacuated while considering what steps are to be taken later," the police chief said.

The exchange of fires has been taking place for about four hurs until this report is filed Wednesday afternoon, but no casualties have been reported so far. "We hope it would not claim lives. We continue to make calculation so that it would not cause a victim," he said.(*)
