The UMKM must play its role in AEC..."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has a big potential to become the base of the processing industry and manufacturing after the implementation of ASEAN Economic Community 2015 (AEC-2015).

"But its realization largely depends on whether or not Indonesia is able to set up the infrastructure, land and skilled personnel," Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto said on Friday.

Speaking in a seminar on Indonesia Banking Expo 2013 (IBEX-2013), held at Jakarta Convention Center, Suryo noted that to face the AEC-2015, the most important thing was that Indonesia should prepare is social factor namely the people to accept the AEC.

According to him, Indonesia has yet to systematically and consistently prepare its people and the Micro, Small and Medium Business (UMKM) to compete in the ASEAN Economic Community.

"The UMKM must play its role in AEC, because Indonesia still needs to work hard to face the AEC by integrating its domestic elements," said the Kadin chief.

Suryo said the questions if Indonesia was ready to face AEC-2015 frequently came up, but according to him they were no longer relevant because AEC has been agreed and its implementation has already been in sight.

But more relevant question, according to him, is that whether or not Indonesia has made specific preparation, needed to face the AEC-2015.
