Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General`s Offices of Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to establish cooperation in the legal field.

Indonesian Attorney General Basrief Arief and his Thai counterpart Chulasingh Vasantasingh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to that effect in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday.

Both sides will soon hold bilateral talks as a follow up to the signing of the MoU to discuss its implementation, Head of the Legal Information Center at the Indonesian Attorney General`s Office Setia Untung Arimuladi said here on Monday.

"The discussion will include the exchange of laws and regulations based on common interests, the exchange of experiences, the exchange of visits by the two agencies` officials for training, and the exchange of information for public interest," he said.

While in Indonesia, the delegations of the two countries` Attorney General`s Offices will also discuss preparations for the formation of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, he said.

AEC is ASEAN`s collective strategy to face the era of globalization and liberalization in the investment and trade fields with the aim of creating a single market, he said.

"In the face of AEC, Indonesia and Thailand must make efforts to protect their national interests and improve their human resources," he said.

The two attorney general`s offices play an important role in upholding the law to create a conducive investment climate, he said.

"This is a challenge for the attorney general`s office as one of law enforcement agencies to stay alert for illegal and harmful business practices which hide behind AEC," he said.(*)
