Banda Aceh, Aceh province (ANTARA News) - Delegation from the Philippines on Friday visits Banda Aceh to meet with local prominent figures and study the successful implementation of peace in Indonesia`s most eastern province after the central government and Aceh Freedom Movement (GAM) signed MoU last 2005.

The visit is considered as a comparative study as the Philippines has just signed an MoU of peace with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) last October 2012.

"We expect to learn something from Aceh`s experience and implement it in our country," Chief of the delegation Howard Lafugalan said here on Friday during meeting with Aceh`s parliament member Adnan Beuransyah.

Meanwhile Adnan during the meeting explained after the signing of MoU between the central government and Aceh Freedom Movement (GAM) in Helsinki last 2005, an independent institution called Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) was established. AMM which consists of military personnel from ASEAN and other partner countries was in charged to monitor the implementation of the MoU signed.

"The institution worked until December 2006. Apart from that, the central government also allocates special budget for Aceh government to develop the province. The special budget will be given until 20 years ahead after the signing of the MoU where during the first 15 years Aceh government will receive two percent of the central government`s total gross revenue," Adnan said.

He argued the special budget is given to Aceh government to boost development in the province after 30 years of conflict.(*)
