Five of the six countries want to buy the aircraft."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Five countries in this region have indicated interest in buying the CN-295 aircraft of PT Dirgantara Indonesia, deputy defense minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
"The air forces of Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar and Malaysia are interested in CN-295 aircraft," he said here on Tuesday.
Sjafri has just returned from a roadshow to six ASEAN countries to promote the turboprop aircraft produced by the state owned aircraft maker.
"Five of the six countries want to buy the aircraft," Sjafri said after the 9th session the Committee for Defense Industry Policy, here.
Sjafri, who is secretary of Committee, said Brunei Darussalam asked PT DI to hold `demo flight` before that country decided to buy the transport plane.
The AEEAN countries are interested in CN-295 as the aircraft is efficient in serving flights for social aid, and for military purposes, he said.
He said CN-295 could land on flat grass land and could carry up to 50 paratroopers.
Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, who is the Committee chairman said the air forces and police departments of the five ASEAN countries have been interested in CN-295 aircraft.
Purnomo said the five countries plan to send teams to the country to discuss details with PT DI.
