"The Indian prime minister has asked me to return to my country. For the first time ever, I will work for the government after working for the World Bank for 25 years and the UNDP for five years," Chhibber said at a meeting with Boediono at the Vice Presidential Office in Jakarta.
Chhibber will lead a new institution to monitor a wide range of government activities and programs in India.
"As the office is new I have not had staff yet and have to find them," he said. He will assume the new post on August 5 this year.
Vice President Boediono congratulated Chhibber on his being elected to the new post.
"That is a new challenge for you. And I should like to express my gratitude for your cooperation and support so far," Boediono said. Reporting by Ahmad Wijaya.(*)
