Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono on Monday received UN Assistant Secretary General and Director of UN Development Program`s Regional Bureau for Asia and Pacific Ajay Chhibber who came to bid farewell as he would soon end his term of office.

"The Indian prime minister has asked me to return to my country. For the first time ever, I will work for the government after working for the World Bank for 25 years and the UNDP for five years," Chhibber said at a meeting with Boediono at the Vice Presidential Office in Jakarta.

Chhibber will lead a new institution to monitor a wide range of government activities and programs in India.

"As the office is new I have not had staff yet and have to find them," he said. He will assume the new post on August 5 this year.

Vice President Boediono congratulated Chhibber on his being elected to the new post.

"That is a new challenge for you. And I should like to express my gratitude for your cooperation and support so far," Boediono said. Reporting by Ahmad Wijaya.(*)
