The security operation would start seven days before and after the fall of the Islamic holiday early next month.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo said he would field more than 88,000 personnel in the operation to assure security of holidaymakers during their travels home for the Islamic post-fasting holiday of Idul Fitri.

He said at the opening of a fast-breaking gathering here on Thursday the security operation would start seven days before and after the fall of the Islamic holiday early next month.

"We hope with your blessings the "Ketupat Operation 2013" would run well and successfully," he said at the meeting which was also attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Vice President Boediono and wife Mrs Herawati, a number of cabinet ministers, Corruption Eradication Commission chief Abraham Samad, and Defense Forces Commander Admiral Agus Suhartono.

President Yudhoyono in his motivation to the police force said "I thank police officers who have carried their duties well so far and also those who would secure home traveling locally called "mudik" later.

He especially appreciated the officers who would not be able to gather with their families on the occasion of Idul Fitri for the sake of their duties.

To the people he appealed to participate in maintaining order and security during the holiday saying that the number of police officers is far below that of the country`s population and so their task is quite heavy.

Millions of people across the country are expected to conduct traveling to their home villages to celebrate the post-fasting festival with their families, relatives and friends.(*)
