"Imported beef sells better than local meat. Buyers complain that locally produce beef contains too much fat. Therefore, traders in the bazaar put imported beef on sale more than the local one," Devina of the Indonesian Animal Protein Business Association (APPHI) said here on Friday.
Devina said that frozen beef sold by the APPHI at the bazaar was imported from New Zealand. It also sold local beef which was produced by the company itself.
Kiosks at the Trade Ministry which sell beef attracted more visitors than those attracted by kiosks selling other commodities. Visitors were seen standing in queue waiting for their turn to have transactions.
"I have bought local beef but I want to change it with the imported one because the local one has too much fat," Wela, a visitor to the bazaar said.
Many other visitors tried to change their meat they had bought with the imported one, but the traders rejected them.
Wela said previously, she actually had already bought local beef sold at the trade ministry`s bazaar with a good quality. But on Friday, she said she was disappointed with the quality of the meat she bought.
"I have bought meat twice here. I prefer imported beef because of its good quality," Lodo Vikus, another visitor of the bazaar said.
The APPHI is selling around 100 kg of imported beef and 50 kg of local one every day during the bazaar. It sells local front leg meat at Rp70,000 per kg and imported imported leg meat at Rp75,000 per kg.
The Trade Ministry is organizing bazaars from July 5 to August 2 to provide cheap necessities in facing the Ramadhan fasting month and the post-fasting Idul Fitri festivities.
Participants of the bazaar included the Indonesian Food and Cooking Oil Industry Association (AIMMI), the Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industry Association (GIMNI), The Association of the Indonesian Poultry Breeding (GPPU), the Indonesian Fowls Marking Information Center (Pinsar), the Indonesian Sugar Traders Association (PPGI), the Indonesian Animal Protein Business Association (APPHI), the state logistics board Bulog, the Association of the Indonesian Retailers (Aprindo) and the Indonesian Fishery Product Marketing and Processing Business Association(AP5I).
Besides, the Indonesian National Processed-Meat Producers Association(Nampa), the All Indonesian Beverage and Food Business Association (GAPMMI), the Pasar Induk Kramat Jati wholesale market, PT. Sarinah (Persero) and the Trade Ministry`s food and culinary small and medium scale businesses are also taking part in the bazaar.
