Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s benchmark stock index was 13.96 points higher at the close of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) on Thursday on larger share transactions.

The BEI index rose 0.3 percent to 4,624.39 points with the index of 45 most liquid stocks gaining 0.29 percent to 774.15 points.

Net buying of Rp442 billion by foreign investors in regular market contributed to positive sentiments for the index, e-Trading Securities` chief researcher Betrand Raynaldi said here on Thursday.

Among the stocks bought most by foreign investors are Astra International (ASII), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI), Telekomunikasi Indonesia (TLKM), Bank Central Asia (BBCA), and Semen Gresik (SMGR), Bertr4and noted.

He predicted the index would extend gain on Friday to reach the level of 4,550--4,700 points.

There were 139,763 transactions on Thursday involving 2.876 billion shares valued at Rp4.058 trillion with gainers outnumbering decliners by 140 to 129 .

Regional markets such as Hang Seng recorded a 0.94 percent increase in index to 22,088.79 points with Nikkei-225 index up 2.47 percent to 14,005.77, and that of Straits Times closing 0.66 percent higher at 3,243.29 points.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian currency rupiah was again on the decline losing 10 points against the US dollar on July`s inflation data of 3.29 percent exceeding market expectation of 2.3-2.5 percent.

The currency traded at 10,290 weakening from 10,280 per dollar earlier. (*)
