BPH Migas head Andy N Sommeng said here on Friday that through June 30, 2013, subsidized fuel distribution reached 22.74 million kiloliters.
"Meanwhile, the quota in the Revised Budget for the first semester was 24 million kiloliters," he said.
Further, gasoline and kerosene usage through the end of 2013 is believed to remain below the quota, he added.
However, he said that diesel usage was probably higher than the allowed quota due to excess driving.
Further, Pertamina`s business and marketing director Hanung Budya noted that after Idul Fitri his company would begin efforts to control diesel consumption in Kalimantan through the use of information technology.
"The control efforts in Kalimantan can be applied because the region is isolated on an island. Meanwhile, Java is more difficult, given that vehicles travel back and forth between the regions (cross-island)," he said.
He added that if the information technology-based controls for Kalimantan can be implemented, the savings can be achieved, as long as the smuggling of diesel fuel to mining companies is prevented.(*)
