Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government here on Wednesday declared the fall of Idul Fitri on Thursday, August 8.

The decision was made in an Isbath meeting attended by representatives from various Islamic organizations in the country.

Religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali also attended the meeting during which he heard views from astronomical experts from the Indonesia National Institute of Aeronautics and Space and neighboring countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and Malaysia.

So, the decision was made after experts` opinions were heard and so it was not monopolized by him, the minister said.

He said after hearing a report from the Director of Islam Religion and Shariah Supervision, Mochtar Ali, that the moon had been two degrees high, participants of the meeting agreed to declare the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan on Wednesday and the fall of Idul Fitri on August 8.

He said the decision was not engineered but was agreed upon by representatives from all Islamic organizations attending the meeting.
