A number of US shrimp companies grouped in Coalition of Gulf Shrimp Industries (COGSI) have accused Indonesia of subsidizing exports of shrimps.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Maritime and Fishery Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said investigation by the US Department of Commerce proved that the shrimp subsidy allegation against Indonesia was false.
"On August 13, 2013, the US-DOC issued a final determination that there was no indication of subsidy on Indonesian exports of shrimp," Sharif said here on Wednesday.
Sharif said a number of US shrimp companies grouped in Coalition of Gulf Shrimp Industries (COGSI) have accused Indonesia of subsidizing exports of shrimps.
The COGSI submitted a petition to the US government on Dec. 28 last year accusing seven countries including Indonesia of subsidizing shrimp exports.
The other six countries included China, Ecuador, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
COGSI said the seven countries had committed unfair trade and demand compensation for losses suffered by its members.
Based on data from the maritime and fishery ministry, Indonesia exported 62,194 tons of frozen shrimp worth US$500 million to the United States.
That year, Indonesia produced 697,013 tons of shrimp.(*)
