Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the government has allocated sizable funds for programs aimed at helping low-income families, after it raised the prices of subsidized fuels in June 2013.

"We must thank God that we managed to adjust the burden of the fuel subsidy," added the president in his state-of-the-nation address at the parliament building to mark the 68th anniversary of Indonesia`s independence.

The president lauded the members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the people at large for reducing the government`s burden of excessive fuel subsidy in the state budget.

"By doing so, we managed to allocate sizable funds for programs aimed at helping low-income families," he said.

Help will be given to low-income families in social insurance, basic infrastructure, and public transportation, he added.

The president added that the government will also focus on "keep buying strategy" to boost the domestic economy.

The strategy is aimed at maintaining and enhancing the public`s purchasing power.

The policy was implemented in 2004 and has been effective in strengthening the capacity of domestic market as the main engine for national economic growth, he said. (*)
