"We have so far been able to pass both small and big tests. These are all also tests for officials to demonstrate their capabilities and, from there, we could see who is stronger and whose capacity needs to be improved," Boediono said.
Cipanas, West Java (ANTARA News) - Vice president Boediono said he was optimistic that Indonesia would be able to pass through the current crisis because of the country`s strong economic fundamentals and reliable economic policy makers.

"We are optimistic we will pass through this because our fundamentals are good and because of our colleagues who manage it, including from Bank Indonesia. I have strong confidence and they are very good at their jobs," he said at a friendly gathering with journalists at the Cipanas Palace here on Saturday.

He added that the combination of policies taken by the government and Bank Indonesia were correct and has seen positive results.

"What has been done by the government and Bank Indonesia, I think, has been right and appreciated by parties at home and abroad," he said.

He noted that economy has often been put to a test by crises, while a crisis is also a test for officials.

"We have so far been able to pass both small and big tests. These are all also tests for officials to demonstrate their capabilities and, from there, we could see who is stronger and whose capacity needs to be improved," he said.

Vice President Boediono said he hoped the media would trust the government in dealing with the crisis. "I hope you would also trust us," he said.

The gathering, attended by dozens of journalists covering his daily activities, along with officials and staff members from his secretariat, began with a walk covering a 1.6 kilometer long route.(*)
