Azizam Ismail, said.Pekanbaru (ANTARA News) - Indonesians make up the largest number of foreign patients treated at Malaysian hospitals, Malaysian Consulate General said here on Saturday.
Around 670,000 Indonesians have come to Malaysia mainly to Malaka for medical treatment, Consul General H. Azizam Ismail said on the occasion of the 56th Malaysian independence day commemoration.
The number is larger than those from India, Azizam said, adding, from Riau alone, 7,000 Indonesians came every month to Malaysia for medical treatment.
Malaysia has become the favorite place for medical treatment because of the facilities being complete and modern as well as being better in services , he said.
Growing number of Indonesians choose to go to Malaysia for medical treatment although they have to pay for additional accommodation cost, he said.
One of the reasons is the fact that the reputation of many Indonesian hospitals including big hospitals have been damaged by frequent cases of malpractices.
Azizam also said Indonesians also make up the largest number of foreign students studying in Malaysia.
There are around ten thousand of Indonesians among 100,000 foreign students in that country, he said
Meanwhile, there are 6,000 Malaysian students studying in Indonesia mainly in medicine.
It is an irony that Malaysians study medicine in Indonesia, but many Indonesians have to go to Malaysia for medical treatment, Azizam said. (*)
