Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian currency rupiah closed stronger against the US dollar on Friday amid uncertainty over US debt ceiling.

The currency traded at the level of 11,330 per US dollar gaining from 11,395 earlier in inter-bank transaction.

Chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures Ariston Tjendra said the US dollar tended to decline with the US government and Congress could not reach an agreement on the debt ceiling.

The government needs an increase in the ceiling to allow it to seek more debt to meet the government bills, but the Republicans in the Congress opposed the use of more debt.

The United States is facing default if the Congress, which is dominated by the Republicans refused to give a nod to President Obama`s proposal for higher debt ceiling.

Meanwhile market players are still worried by The Fed monetary stimulus tapering any time but their greatest concern is over the debt ceiling standoff.
