For us, the important thing is the interest of the nation and the country."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, during a meeting with opposition leader Prabowo Subianto from the Gerindra Party here on Tuesday, expressed his wish to end his presidential term smoothly.

"I feel encouraged because, once again I have seen and heard his commitment toward democracy. He wished me well and hoped to be able to step down well, during my term, and set a good example by getting the transition and transfer of power done in a friendly spirit," stated Prabowo after the meeting.

In the meeting that lasted for around 45 minutes, Prabowo stated that President Yudhoyono had also expressed his wish to create a democratic and just atmosphere, such that all presidential candidates are able to compete in the right family spirit.

When asked about the possibility of his party to form a coalition with the Presidents party, Prabowo explained that Gerindra wished to cooperate with all parties.

"For us, the important thing is the interest of the nation and the country," he emphasized.

On the occasion, Prabowo reiterated Gerindras appreciation toward President Yudhoyonos leadership and the achievement he had made so far in leading the big, multi-ethnic and multi-religious country despite all its problems.

"I think we have to appreciate it. In the middle of the worlds upheavals Indonesia has been controlled well," he pointed out.

The meeting between the two today, was not the first one, as Prabowo has been on several meetings with President Yudhoyono even before.

President Yudhoyonos second presidential term comes to an end next year. By law, he is not allowed to seek re-election as he has been in the position twice.

Prabowo, like Yudhoyono, is a former army general, and has meanwhile been touted as a presidential candidate contesting the elections scheduled next year.
