Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono through his twitter account on Sunday called on the public to meet the new year with vigor and hope.

"At the end of this year of happiness let us meet next year with full spirits and hope," he said.

On several occasions so far President Yudhoyono has actively invited all parties to be wise in meeting 2014, which is a political year for the country, in view of the legislative and presidential elections to be held in the year.

President Yudhoyono has also expressed hope that the elections would be successful.

In a recent meeting with Gerindra Party figure Prabowo Subianto he expressed the wish he could step down well and hand over his presidency smoothly in the family spirit and the spirit of brotherhood after the elections.

"I feel encouraged because I saw and heard once again his commitment to democracy. He said he wished, in his words, he could step down well to give a good example how transfer of power could be done well in the spirit of family and brotherhood," Prabowo said after the meeting.

Indonesia would hold legislative elections in April next year which will later be followed by a presidential election.

President Yudhoyono by law is not allowed to seek re-election as he has been in the post for two terms.
