Manado, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Chief of Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and former Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, visited the flood victims in Manado.

Jusuf Kalla, who is famously called by his initial name "JK", stated at Tikala District in Manado, on Monday, that while visiting the refugees, he wanted to check out the rehabilitation aid held by PMI, particularly the clean water supply in some major impacted areas.

"During the flood emergency status, PMI will continue to supply clean water to the residents until next two weeks, since the water facilities are damaged by floods," Kalla pointed out.

According to Kalla, PMI will supply more than 500 gallons of clean water per day to the flood impacted areas, especially Manado City, until two weeks ahead.

PMI will also continue its health service and public kitchen services to the refugees in Manado, Tomohon and Minahasa, areas that were also inundated by floods on Wednesday, January 15.

"The point is PMI is ready to help with anything related to the post-floods rehabilitation process in Manado and neighboring areas," JK assured.

Besides visiting the floods victims in Tikala District, JK also visited Wanea District and held a dialogue with the refugees.

After floods hit Manado and its neighboring areas, such as Tomohon and Minahasa, the North Sulawesis PMI has also helped in cleaning up public facilities, besides providing clean water.

"We helped cleaning up the worship places, streets and currently, 100 volunteers have cleaned around the Manados mayor office area," reported Team Commander of North Sulawesis PMI Irwan Lalegit.

The health service held by PMI in Manado was also supported by mobile clinic service that handled more than 250 flood victims.
