Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta index opened higher on positive regional sentiment on Wednesday.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 14.27 points or 0.33 percent to 4,355.93 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.51 percent to 730.93 points.

"The BEI index rose to follow the regional trend and with the rupiah strengthening and positive sentiment in bond market," Samuel Sekuritas analyst Yualdo Yudoprawiro said.

Yualdo said a number of stocks rising in price on Tuesday like cement, property, consumer goods and banks are expected to gain again on Wednesday.

"The BEI index is expected move to the level of 4,375 points on Wednesday," he said .

Panin Sekuritas analyst Purwoko said the increase in the BEI index is still shadowed by worries over plan of the Fed to cut its financial stimulus and Chinese economic slowdown.

"The Fed would start a two-day meeting on its stimulus tapering plant," Purwoko said.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng recorded an increase of 0.93 percent in index to 22,165.89 points, with Nikkei index up 1.74 percent to 15,240.55 points and that of Straits Times down 0.40 percent to 3,049.34 points.
