The Katulampa water gauge reading at 11.27 pm on Wednesday reached 220 cm and this raised the alert status to first level."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Katulampa sluice in Bogor, West Java, has reached the alert one (I) level on Thursday morning due to heavy rain in the upstream area of the Ciliwuing River, a disaster mitigation official said.
"Torrential rains in the upstream area of the Ciliwung River has raised the water gauge reading of the Katulampa sluice to the alert I level," Sutopo P. Nugroho, the head of the Data Information Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), stated in a text message to Antara on Thursday morning.
However, the Depok sluice was still on the alert IV level, or still normal while the Manggarai water gate had been on alert III status.
Sutopo said the water flow from the upstream area of the river would reach the Ciliwung Rivers downstream at about 8 a.m to 10 a.m on Thursday.
The Ciliwuing River runs through Jakarta and empties into the sea.
"The Katulampa water gauge reading at 11.27 pm on Wednesday reached 220 cm and this raised the alert status to level I," he said.
The PNPB recorded on Wednesday that the water gauge reading at the Depok sluice reached 180 cm at 11 p.m on Wednesday, or at alert IV level while the water level at the Manggarai sluice at 10.52 pm on Wednesday was recorded at 780 cm or at alert III level.
On Wednesday, a number of main roads in Jakarta were inundated with the rain continuing to pour from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning.
The water is as deep as 50 centimeters in some places paralyzing traffic, stated the city Disaster Control Agency (BPBD) here on Wednesday.
In western Jakarta, at Jalan Daan Mogot, the main arterial road linking Jakarta and its satellite city of Tangerang, the water is 20 centimeter deep.
In eastern Jakarta at Jalan Otista Kebon Nanas Utara 2, the road is 50 centimeters below the water.
Traffic has been paralyzed due to flooding in South Jakarta with several roads submerged under water. The floodwater is 50 centimeters deep at Jalan Pulo Mawar and Jalan Raya Fatmawati and 20 centimeters at Jalan Permata Hijau and Jalan Prapatan Pancoran .
In Central Jakarta, Jalan Kali Pasir Cikini and Jalan Baturaja Tanah Abang were inundated with water 40 centimeters deep and Jalan Bendungan Hilir was 20 - 30 centimeters below water.
Incessant rains have caused great inconvenience for workers and travelers in Jakarta over the past three weeks.
Hundreds of people have had to be evacuated from several badly hit areas.
The BNPB reported that some 137 people have died and 1.1 million have been evacuated due to floods and landslides in Indonesia since early this month.
