"I and other residents managed to catch the four-meter long crocodile by using a mangrove monkey as bait to lure it," stated Mang Yasak, a Sungailiat resident here on Friday.
Yasak explained that the residents had to capture the giant reptile following widespread concerns among the people, after it preyed on a 28-year-old local tin ore miner Masuni on Monday (Feb. 10).
Masunis cadaver was found on Wednesday (Feb. 12) with severe wounds suspected to be inflicted by a crocodile.
The crocodile hunt by the villagers is still ongoing, as the locals believe that there is another crocodile still wandering in the area, Yasak pointed out.
"The existence of man-eating crocs in the Selayu River is disturbing news for the public, especially for the fishermen, who catch fish on that river," Yasak explained.
Once the crocodile is caught, its meat will be distributed among the villagers. (*)
