Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index closed slightly higher on Thursday on foreign investors still taking buying position.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 0.12 percent to 4,598.22 points with index of 435 most liquid stocks up 0.37 percent to 776.41 points.

PT Anugerah Sekurindo Indahs analyst Bertoni Rio said foreign investors were encouraged by expectation that the countrys economic fundamentals are stronger.

"Foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp998 billion on Thursday following the positive expectation," he said.

He said the BEI index could still rise to as high as 4,613 points on Friday on foreign investors continuing to enter the market.

Trading at BEI on Thursday recorded 192,783 transactions with 3.619 billion shares worth Rp5.153 trillion changing hands.

Gainers were 118 shares as against decliners of 190 with 658 shares unchanged.

Regional shares such as Hang Seng recorded an increase of 0.34 percent in index to 22,664.52 points with Nikkei index down 0.52 percent to 14,766.53 and that of Straits Times gaining 0.47 percent to 3,086.59 points.
