Mr Hughes denies emphatically each of the allegations."
Sydney (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Former Australian TV star Robert Lindsay Hughes is on trial in the Downing Center District Court in Sydney after pleading not guilty to 11 child-sex charges involving girls aged from seven to 15, local media reported on Monday (Feb. 24).

The former star of the TV show "Hey Dad!" is accused of committing the offenses between 1985 and 1990.

The court was told on Monday, the first day of trial, that Hughes allegedly sexually assaulted a girl during a sleepover at his Sydney home before giving her a teddy bear and calling her a "good girl".

The prosecutor said Hughes also exposed himself to a young girl actor near the Hey Dad! set at Channel Sevens Eastwood studios in Sydney.

The 64-year-old former TV star has pleaded not guilty to the charges, local media reports said.

Hughes lawyer Greg Walsh told the court that his client is innocent.

"Mr Hughes denies emphatically each of the allegations," Walsh said.

The trial is expected to last for several weeks.
