Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Police officers in the West Nusa Tenggara province had arrested three people on charges of shooting at 2nd Inspector Hanafi on March 28.

"We had arrested three people. Based on testimonies from witnesses, they were suspected of shooting at the police officer, " the spokesman of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Police, Adj. Snr. Comr. M Suryo Saputro, said here on Thursday.

The three suspects were identified by their initials as ER, 30; Ed, 35; and HE, 25. They were arrested in two different places in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday night, he said.

Based on information given by the witnesses, the three people were believed to have shot at 2nd Inspector Hanafi, who is chief of the narcotic section at the Bima city police station, he said.

"It was still unclear whether they had shot at him. However, there was strong evidence pointing to their involvement in the case," he noted.

He added that they were arrested for allegedly possessing pointed weapons and drugs.

The case was being handled by the directorate of detective and general crime at the provincial police.

The police force was conducting further investigation following the arrest of the three suspects in the shooting case.(*)
