Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Peoples Welfare Agung Laksono said Indonesia thanked philanthropist Bill Gates for his US$40 million donation to the countrys health program.

"Indonesia is very grateful to Bill Gates who cares for the health conditions in the country," the minister said here on Sunday.

Agung explained he had met with Bill Gates on Saturday. During the meeting, Minister Agung was accompanied by Indonesian Minister of Health Nafsiah Mboi and Mayapada Group CEO Sri Dr Taher.

Bill Gates is visiting Indonesia in connection with the launch of the Indonesian Health Fund.

Donation from Bill Gates and from local businesspeople will be channeled for the Indonesian Health Fund programs, Agung said.

The funds will be used to overcome health problems such as malaria,tuberculosis (TBC), HIV-AIDS, dengue fever and family planning program.

Agung hoped that the donation given by Bill Gates would inspire local businesspeople to also provide donation for the Indonesian Health Fund.
