Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta index opened 0.28 percent higher at 4,871.72 in the early trade on Monday with index of 45 most liquid stock up 0.71 percent to 825.94 points.

In general the index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) moved in a limited range, Indosurya Securities analyst William Surya wijaya said.

Meanwhile, Panin Sekuritas analyst Purwoko Sartono said the momentum of legislative election would serve as a positive catalyst for the BEI index.

He predicted the BEI index would hover around the level of 4,850--4,895 point on Monday.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng weakened with index down 0.62 percent to 22,369.95 points, the index of Nikkei shrinking 1.37 percent to 14,857.46 and that of Straits Times down 0.17 percent to 3,206.97. (*)
