According to the election regulation, money politic is punishable as a crime.Kendari (ANTARA News) - Police have confiscated money in envelopes believed to be used to buy votes ahead of the legislative election in Konawe District, Southeast Sulawesi, on Wednesday.
The money in 52 envelopes containing Rp20,000 to Rp40,000 each were to be given to voters on Tuesday in exchange for their votes.
Southeast Sulawesi police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr Sunarto said here on Wednesday the money was confiscated from a motorist, who is a member of success team of a legislative candidate with the initial of HJR from the United Development Party (PPP).
Sunarko said the envelopes with the money had been handed over to Election Supervision Committee to be processed further.
According to the election regulation, money politic is punishable as a crime.
Indonesia held legislative election on Wednesday to be followed with presidential electon in July.
