Today we declare that the coalition of PDIP, Nasdem and PKB will jointly nominate Joko Widodo as the presidential candidateJakarta (ANTARA News) - Three political parties declared their support for Jakarta governor Joko Widodo or Jokowi as their presidential candidate for the election on July 9 here on Wednesday.
The Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the National Awakening Party (Nasdem) and the National Democrats (Nasdem) made the declaration at the PDIP headquarters.
"Today we declare that the coalition of PDIP, Nasdem and PKB will jointly nominate Joko Widodo as the presidential candidate," PDIP secretary general Tjahjo Kumolo said reading the declaration.
He said Joko Widodo is a strong, righteous and patient person who can carry out the mandate.
"The mandate we gave to Jokowi to run for the presidency was taken in consultation after the results of quick counts of votes were out," he added.
He said PDIPs "Trisakti" ideology for future national development matched Nasdems platform and therefore Nasdem immediately expressed its support to the PDIP.
"Based on the political communication that the PDIP general chairperson had directed to the success team and Tjahjo, the general chairman of the PKB, Muhaimin Iskandar, resolved to join PDIPs plan to strengthen the presidential system by supporting Joko Widodo," he noted.
He said 2014 will be a defining year as well as a year of change and history for all the people of Indonesia.
"We hope our intention to bring victory to Jokowi is blessed by God," he remarked.
