"We are still discussing the two options. The first is that the PD can opt to support one of the existing presidential candidates," Yudhoyono said when addressing the opening of the PD national leadership meeting here on Sunday.
He said that if it was agreed, a coalition could be formed and the PD would name its own presidential and vice presidential candidates, yet this possibility was small.
"The other option is that we do not join alliance but in the July 9 presidential elections we will adopt the attitude of seeing their platform," Yudhoyono said.
The Democratic Party can just channel its aspirations for a certain presidential candidate.
"In this case, our party should be able to take correct attitude. After the opening, I will make clear the situations we are facing," he said.
He said that his side would also hear the aspirations of PDs provincial branches to consolidate its position in the coming two days.
"We will fully consider and strengthen position in the coming two days," Yudhoyono added.
These options appeared because the DP had limitations in deciding its own steps, when the PD faced a different situation from that during the 2004 and 2009 elections, Yudhoyono asserted.
"Why do we have constraints in making a choice compared with what we had in the 2004 and 2009 presidential elections? The first thing is that the votes we secured (in the legislative elections) were only 10 percent," Yudhoyono said when addressing the PD National Working Meeting here on Sunday.
The second is that the electability of the participants of the Democratic Partys presidential candidate convention is lower than those of other parties presidential and vice presidential candidates, he said.
"The absence of PDs presidential candidates with high electability to compete with other top candidates limits PDs options to name a presidential candidate," he said.
He said that the aim of the PD leadership meeting on Sunday was to decide its political attitude with regard to the 2014 presidential elections.
Yudhoyono said that the Democratic Party had the responsibility to make the elections run peacefully and democratically and is clean from deviation and fraud. (*)
