Jokowi and Kalla traveled to the KPU office on bikes and were followed by hundreds of their supporters including Puan Maharani, the chairperson of the success team of the Indonesia Democratic Party (PDIP), which is Jokowis party.
Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla departed from the private residence of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the general chairperson of PDIP in Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Jokowi is currently the governor of Jakarta while Jusuf Kalla is a former vice president.
PDIP has coalesced with the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), the National Democrats (Nasdem), and the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura) for the election, which is scheduled to be held on July 9.
On the same day, Jokowis rival, Prabowo Subianto from the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and Hatta Rajasa from the National Mandate Party (PAN), also formally declared themselves as presidential and vice presidential candidates.
Gerindra is supported by PAN, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the United Development Party (PPP), Golkar Party, and the Moon and Star Party (PBB).
