Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Situation in the capital city Jakarta has been favorable during the presidential election today, spokesman to Jakarta Metropolitan Police Rikwanto said here on Wednesday.

"We have been conducting patrol continuously using cars and helicopters. Up till now, the situation in Jakarta has been conducive," said Rikwanto.

He said the Jakarta police personnel had been deployed to various areas in the city, including in small islands near Jakarta, to observe and maintain peaceful situation.

Rikwanto called on people to remain calm and not be provoked by negative issues during the election process.

"The police patrol is conducted to ensure a peaceful election process in Jakarta and to answer peoples concern of possible chaotic situation," said Rikwanto.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police had deployed a total of 22,101 personnel to maintain security in Jakarta during the election process. In addition, 7,300 military personnel and 65,820 community protection (Linmas) personnel have been deployed to assist in securing the situation in Jakarta, particularly in 32,874 polling booths.

Indonesia is holding presidential elections on July 9, 2014.

The election is contested by the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair and the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla duo.

According to the General Elections Commission, a total of 190,307,134 voters have been registered (including 2,038,711 overseas voters), with 486,866 polling stations across the archipelago.
