"We urge the Indonesian government to take appropriate steps to respond to this issue by setting up a fact-finding mission within the next seven days," Kontras Coordinator Haris Azhar said in a press statement here on Friday.
Kontras condemned the brutal air strikes conducted by Israel that had resulted in the deaths of many Palestinians, including innocent children and women, and injured hundreds of others.
"The fact-finding team can consist of several members, including government officials, academicians, and civil society organizations," he said.
The fact-finding teams report could be used as a basis for international organizations, such as the United Nations and the Arab League, in taking further steps.
Kontras also urged the government to optimize multilateral approaches through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in promoting peace in the Middle East.
Haris Azhar believed the Indonesian government is capable of providing a concrete contribution for establishing peace in Gaza.
The Indonesian government and public have condemned Israel for killing many innocent Palestinians, including children, in the military attacks on Gaza over the last few days.
"Indonesia condemns Israels military offensive in Gaza. It is an act that has caused a lot of casualties in Palestine, thus creating a new obstacle in the efforts to bring a condition conducive for the continuation of peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine," stated Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa in Jakarta, on July 10, 2014.
At least 95 Palestinians, most of them civilians that included children and women, have been killed in Israels Gaza offensive, Palestinian officials said on July 10. (*)
