Police had a list of the persons who had been recruited.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police reported here on Tuesday that they have been conducting an investigation on persons allegedly involved in the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) network in the country.
"Investigation is already underway based on data we had compiled before. So, we are following up on the investigation that had been carried out so far on persons who have been recruited to carry out jihad in Syria," the National Police Commands head of public information division Brigadier General Boy Rafli Amar said.
He noted that the police had a list of the persons who had been recruited.
He said the police had once handled terrorism cases involving those who had been recruiting people to fight in Syria.
"We have been monitoring them but not in our focus of investigation," he pointed out.
In view of that, he has appealed to followers of ISIS ideology who had spread a video footage of terrorists calling for people to join ISIS to review their stance.
"I appeal to them to stop efforts to establish an organization based on radicalism. Organizations that have been established must be dissolved," he said.
A video footage had been uploaded in YouTube under the Jihadology account on July 22 showing an Indonesian citizen calling himself as Abu Muhammad al-Indonesi inviting Indonesian Muslims to conduct jihad along with ISIS.
In connection with the emergence of the video footage, national police chief General Sutarman has affirmed that the police will carry out law enforcement efforts against anyone found breaking the laws.
He revealed that the man in the video footage titled "Joint the Rank" had so far been in the polices wanted list.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto said here on Monday the Indonesian government had rejected the ISIS ideology and will prevent it from spreading into the country because it runs against the state ideology of Pancasila and the principle of unity in diversity.
He announced at a press conference after a limited cabinet meeting that the ideology must not be allowed to develop in the country.
He said Indonesians must respect their country that respects religious, racial, ethnic, and group differences.
He added that the government will prevent the establishment of a formal representation of ISIS/IS in the country and called on Indonesians to help prevent the spread of ISIS ideology.(*)
