"Electricity tariff hike contributed 0.12 percent to the August inflation rate of 0.47 percent due to the average tariff hike of 4.16 percent in the previous month," BPS Chairman Suryamin remarked during a press conference here on Monday.
Some of the other contributors to the August 2014 inflation rate were the prices of fresh fish at 0.04 percent, elementary school tuition fees at 0.04 percent, junior high school tuition fees at 0.03 percent, and rice prices at 0.02 percent.
Other factors contributing to the August 2014 inflation rate due to price hikes were purebred chicken at 0.02 percent, house rents at 0.02 percent, and senior high school tuition fees at 0.02 percent.
However, the prices of onion fell 0.03 percent, intercity transport tariffs dropped 0.03 percent, and tomato prices declined 0.02 percent.
The August 2014 inflation rate was greatly fueled by the group of educational services, recreation and sports at 1.58 percent and the group of housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel contributing 0.73 percent.
"The group of educational services contributed to the inflation as August is the start of the new academic year, and educational fees increased accordingly. The housing group was affected by the hike in electricity tariff," he added.
