The first Asian cup to be held in Indonesia will be participated by 60 athletes."Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Participants from 12 countries will be competing in the Makassar Asian Cup water skiing and wakeboarding championship to be held in Tanjung Bunga Lake, Makassar, South Sulawesi Province, from September 5 to 7, 2014.
"All water skiing athletes have arrived. However, some wakeboarding athletes will arrive on Thursday," general secretary of South Sulawesi branch of Indonesian Water Skiing and Wakeboarding Association Ismail Sellery reported here on Wednesday.
Most of the participants are from Indonesia, with 30 athletes. The participating foreign athletes are from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon.
Some of international athletes had the opportunity to test the water skiing track on Tuesday, attracting local residents.
"The first Asian cup to be held in Indonesia will be participated by 60 athletes. Among the international countries, South Korea has the most number of participants, with seven of their best athletes to compete," Sellery noted.
The championship also involved two non-Asian countries, England and New Zealand, not as participants but as co-organizers.
The organizers will assign international referees from the Asian water skiing and wakeboarding organization to lead the championship that will witness categories such as slalom, tricks, jumping, overall, and wakeboard.
The event will be held concurrently with a national water skiing and wakeboarding championship Andi Mattalatta Cup.
"The Andi Mattalatta Cup will be participated by 24 athletes from Indonesian regions. Some athletes will be competing in both the events, as they had met the requirement from the Asian water skiing organization," Sellery added.
