The mosquito responsible for malaria transmission is no longer found in Jakarta."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta is free of malaria as of March this year, head of the Jakarta Health Office Dien Emmawati reported here on Tuesday.
"Since March this year, malaria has been eliminated in five municipalities; so, we can confirm that Jakarta is currently free of malaria," Emmawati stated.
A survey carried out by the health ministry with the cooperation of the World Health Organization revealed that there were no more malaria-causing mosquito nests in Jakarta.
If a malaria case is reported in Jakarta, then the disease has spread most likely from another city, he noted.
"The mosquito responsible for malaria transmission is no longer found in Jakarta. If a malaria case occurs in Jakarta, then the disease must be imported, for instance, by a soldier who has just returned from Papua and was infected with malaria there," he added.
