Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index (JCI) closed 0.53 percent higher on Thursday on positive global sentiment, analysts said.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 27.37 points to 5,201.37 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.65 percent to 884.41 points.

"Positive sentiment from the US markets followed by the majority markets strengthened the BEI index," HD Capitals analyst Yuganur Wijanarko said.

Internal sentiment was positive with investors more aggressive in buying shares ahead of the forming of a new cabinet by the president elect Joko Widodo.

In the trade on Thursday at the BEI there were 195,892 transactions with 3.42 billion shares valued at Rp4.37 trillio changing hands.

Gainers outnumbered decliners by 187 to 132 shares with 87 shares remaining flat.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng and Straits Times recorded a decline in index but Nikkei recorded gain. ***2*** (AS/a014)
