The seven sites are the old city area in Jakarta province, the old city area in Central Java province, Sangkulirang in East Kalimantan, the Buddhist Temple in Jambi, and three other sites located in West Sumatra, South Sulawesi, and Maluku each.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Education and Culture Ministry will nominate seven Indonesian tourism sites to be included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCOs) world heritage list, noted Cultural Diplomacy Affairs Director Diah Harianti.
She further stated here on Monday that the seven sites to be nominated for the world heritage status are the old city area in Jakarta province, the old city area in Central Java province, Sangkulirang in East Kalimantan, the Buddhist Temple in Jambi, and three other sites located in West Sumatra, South Sulawesi, and Maluku each.
"We are preparing all the aspects, which can be used to strengthen our argument and get these seven sites acknowledged as world heritage," emphasized Diah.
In the meantime, UNESCOs Assistant Programme Specialist Kaori Kawakami noted that according to past case studies, there were some factors that should be considered before acknowledging any tourism site as world heritage.
Among the deciding factors are management planning of the sites (70 percent), housing (37 percent), tourism effect and the number of visitors (25.7 percent), legal standing (24 percent), and transportation to the site (23 percent).(*)
