"That is good. The inauguration must become a momentum for us to unite," he stated at the parliamentary compound here on Wednesday while referring to the meeting held on Tuesday.
The nation has been divided following the victory of Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo in the presidential election on July 9.
Golkar Party is one of the political parties that supported Joko Widodos rival Prabowo Subianto in the election.
After the meeting with Bakrie, Jokowi revealed that he also plans to meet other political party leaders, especially those grouped in the coalition that supported Prabowo.
Zulkifli stated that a meeting with the party leaders such as Prabowos running mate and also the National Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Hatta Rajasa, the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Chairman Prabowo Subianto, and PANs Advisory Board Chairman Amien Rais will help to mollify the situation and will, in turn, help to convince the investors to continue investing in the country.
He noted that Jokowi, as the president-elect is popularly known, should continue to hold meetings with other leaders similar to the one held with Bakrie.
Zulkifli remarked that the MPR leadership planned to meet Hatta Rajasa and Aburizal Bakrie on Wednesday to hand over the invitations of the inauguration ceremony of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla as president and vice president on October 20.
He affirmed that the MPR will also meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the evening that day, and on Friday, with Prabowo Subianto for the same purpose.
With regard to sending an invite to Megawati Soekarnoputri, the general chairperson of the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), which leads the coalition of political parties that support Joko Widodo, he remarked that a meeting with her was yet to be arranged.
"We will continue to work hard to thaw the situation," he added.
