"The presence of Prabowo and Hatta had a cooling effect on the nations political climate and it hailed the spirit of gotong royong (mutual help), Indonesia Public Institute (IPI) senior observer Karyono Wibowo said on Monday.
He added that the term gotong royong (working together) was popularized by Indonesias first President Soekarno.
Soekarno would frequently refer to the term to revive the spirit of national unity that was torn by political chaos at the time.
"I hope, the presence of Prabowo and Hatta at the inauguration will have a positive effect on national politics and help realize the objective of national development as stipulated in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution," he remarked.
According to him, Soekarno popularized the term to strengthen the spirit of national unity and make Indonesia a politically and economically strong and sovereign nation.
