Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - The West Java provincial government will soon set up a regional communication forum as part of efforts to establish good synergy among district heads and mayors.

The forum will also be aimed at addressing a wide range of environmental issues.

"We will propose the formation of a regional communication forum for environment to the central government," the Head of the West Java Provincial Environmental Management Board (BPLHD), Anang Sudarna, said here on Tuesday.

The forum will serve as a means for the provincial government to hold discussions with district heads and mayors of the province to tackle environmental issues, he added.

"For instance, we will hold coordination meetings with district heads so that they have a better understanding of environmental issues," he stated.

Sudarna also expressed hope that the communication forum will be able to address environmental issues, including how to maintain a supply of clean water to the local people.

The condition of the environment in West Java is quite dangerous, he noted, citing an example of a number of areas that lacked adequate supply of clean water and rice fields that severely dried out during the dry months.

"Even with water supply, there is no guarantee that it is healthy or clean," the BPLHD official remarked.

In addition to the provincial governments efforts to preserve the environment, Sudarna pointed out that the central governments support to uphold the rules and take action against those found destroying the environment was important.

So far, the provincial government has found it hard to take action against industries destroying the environment due to lack of law enforcement, he affirmed.
