Besides killing Nurbaiti (53), the flood, which hit the village at 05.30 p.m. local time, also forced 70 families to take refuge in a mosque, BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho stated here Friday.
The flash flood also damaged 30 houses, a mosque, a 12-meter-long road as well as a car and a rice mill machine, he added.
The Regional Disaster Management Board (BPBD) of Pasaman District along with the Indonesian Military (TNI), Indonesian Police (Polri), Social Services, Health Department, Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and Public Works Department have deployed their personnel for relief operations in flood-hit areas.
A temporary post has been set up at Nurul Iman Mosque in Lungguak Batu, he informed.
Meanwhile, a total of 216 people from 41 families were evacuated due to flash floods at Tabiang Banda Gadang in Nanngalo Sub-District, Padang city, about three hours from Pasaman.
The floodwaters inundating the area reached up to two meters high. The BPBD has erected emergency tents and distributed ready-to-eat meals to flood-affected people.(*)
