Agung, a former coordinating minister for public welfare, said at the plenary meeting that participants proposed the forming of the presidium to be headed by he himself.
Earlier the plenary meeting of the central executive board of the party on Tuesday afternoon was headed by another deputy general chairman Theo L Sambuaga, as the general chairman Aburizal Bakrie was not present.
Theo said the meeting decided to approve the result of a previous plenary meeting that a national deliberation (Munas) would be held on Nov 30.
He then declared the meeting closed without asking approval from the participants and left.
Most of the participants protested and called Theo authoritarian making a unilateral decision.
As Theo walked out the participants proposed to form the party savior presidium with members including a number of candidates for general chairman and cadres fired by Aburizal Bakrie earlier.
They include Priyo Budi Santoso, Hajriyanto Y Thohari, Zainuddin Amali, Agus Gumiwang, Lauren Siburian, Yorrys Raweyai, Agun Gunandjar, and Ibnu Munzir.
Aburizal Bakrie has been considered failing in leading the party for the past five years , but he still have an ambition to contest the next election for a new general chairman.
Aburizal Bakrie and his supporters decided to hold the Munas on Nov 30 but other candidates rejected the plan saying Bakrie set the date to give no time for other candidates to maneuver for the election.
Agung said the presidium restored the position of those fired by Bakrie including Agus Gumiwang, Nusron Wahid, and Poempida Hidayatullah, and set the date for Munas in January 2015. (*)
