SINGAPORE, Nov. 28, 2014 (ANTARA/PRNewswire) -- Stars of Christmas, an annual community project jointly championed by OUE Limited (SGX-ST: LJ3), Mandarin Orchard Singapore and select partners, in collaboration with various children's aid societies, kicked off with the ceremonial hanging of Christmas stars at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. Now in its fifth year, the programme continues a tradition of spreading the spirit of the Yuletide Season to beneficiaries of non-profit organisations committed to providing support services for children with special needs and illnesses, and those from low-income families.
Stars of Christmas is made possible through support of a growing list of donors, volunteers, and corporate partners that include Chrysler Jeep Automotive of Singapore Pte Ltd and Komoco Motorcycles Pte Ltd (Harley-Davidson of Singapore -- Sole Authorised Dealer). Also making a welcome addition to the programme this year is the participation of Community Chest -- the fund-raising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service.
Stars of Christmas is a three-part programme that commences with the solicitation of Christmas presents from employees of supporting organisations, guests of Mandarin Orchard Singapore, and the wider public. Adorning the Christmas tree displayed at the main lobby of the hotel are stars that indicate the name, age and gender of each of the beneficiaries. Donors are encouraged to pick as many stars as they choose, and are then guided by the information on the stars to purchase Christmas presents accordingly.
On 11th December 2014, Stars of Christmas beneficiaries, along with their parents, siblings, and caregivers, will be guests of honour at a Christmas luncheon hosted by OUE Executive Chairman, Dr Stephen Riady, at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. The children will be treated to an afternoon of entertainment and a scrumptious Christmas feast - the affair ending on a merry note with Santa distributing presents.
Stars of Christmas culminates in a "Toy Run" scheduled on 13th December 2014, during which a fleet of volunteers in their Jeeps® and Harley-Davidson motorcycles will line the Orchard Road frontage of Mandarin Gallery, making for a festive spectacle as they flag off at 9.30 in the morning to help deliver hundreds of donated Christmas presents to various homes and hospitals.
In a statement released at the ceremonial kick-off, Mr Thio Gim Hock, OUE Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, said, "Christmas is a time for giving. At OUE, we are pleased to celebrate this Christmas tradition for the fifth year running. Stars of Christmas could not have been possible without the support of our donors, volunteers and partners, who share our ongoing commitment to giving back to the community."
"We welcome this opportunity to be part of such a meaningful endeavour," commented Mr Gerald Seng, General Manager of Chrysler Jeep Automotive Singapore. "Through the Stars of Christmas community programme, we are able to contribute towards bringing a message of hope this Christmas to children and their families that need it most."
