Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla has denied that the 2013 education curriculum issued recently will be repealed.

Kalla said that the government will review the curriculum for its better implementation and that its transition period needs to be extended.

"We will not stop, nor repeal, the curriculum. No one said it will be repealed," the vice president stated here on Monday.

According to him, the government will improve some weaknesses in the 2013 education program.

The transition period of the curriculum will be extended to ensure that it is implemented well.

"The correct way to go ahead is to implement the 2013 education curriculum. We will have a years time to improve the quality of the teachers. We wont repeal the education courses, but will extend it (the transition period) instead," Kalla reiterated.

Furthermore, Culture, Elementary Education and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan noted that the implementation of the 2013 education curriculum on Friday (December 5) was stopped because he assumed that most schools in Indonesia were not ready to implement the system yet.

Schools that follow the education curriculum in question for one semester will re-implement the 2006 curriculum.

The minister pointed out that the termination is based on the availability of books, the system of scoring, and training of teachers and headmasters, which are not uniform.

In addition, schools that implemented the 2013 education curriculum for three semesters will continue to follow the system.(*)
