Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A landslide that struck in Banjarnegara District of Central Java Province on Friday at 18:00 PM local time buried 105 houses and claimed three lives.

"The landslide occurred in Jemblung Hamlet, Sampang Village of Karangkobar Sub-district of Banjarnegara District after heavy rains poured down in the area. The preliminary data noted that at least three people died," the Chief of Public Relation and Information Center of National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said here on Friday evening.

Sutopo added that the disaster caused serious injuries to three people and minor injuries to 13 others.

Sutopo said the heavy rain, darkness and potential for subsequent landslides have troubled the evacuation process.

The agency also said there is no communications with the area.

Meanwhile, the Chief of BNPB Syamsul Maarif has ordered a quick response team to the area to coordinate with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency.

Sutopo said several institutions have assisted in the disaster assistance, such as personnel of Banjarnegara disaster mitigation agency, Central Java disaster mitigation agency, the Indonesian military and police, as well as volunteers.

The mitigation agencies from Banyumas, Wonosobo and Purbalingga have also been ordered to assist.

The total number of refugees from the earlier landslide that occurred in Wanayasa Sub-district of Banjarnegara District on Thursday, Dec 11, included 379 people.

The refugees are being housed in several villages, with 139 refugees living in Karangtengah Village, 72 persons in Pandansari Village, 70 people in Dawuhan Village, 46 persons in Ngasinan Village and 52 people in Sijeruk Village.

The landslide also claimed a casualty, identified as Suheri of Sidengok Village of Pejawaran Sub-district.

Another landslide that occurred in Wonosobo on Thursday has caused the death of Taroni. His body was found on Friday at 10:00 am local time.R/B003) 13-12-2014 13:26:52
