"Lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis has sought to postpone the summons for The Jakarta Post's Chief Editor," Spokesperson for Jakarta City Police Polda Metro Jaya Sennior Commisioner Rikwanto said here Monday.
Meidyatama Suryodiningrat was scheduled to be interrogated on Monday (Dec 15). However, his team of lawyers has asked for a postponement of the interrogation to January 7, 2015.
According to Rikwanto, police investigators did not oppose the request for postponement but asked the litigants to utilize the time for settling the matter through mediation.
On a police file report no.687/VII/2014, July 15, 2014, Edy Mulyadi, Head of Jakarta Mubaligh Corps (KMJ), had filed a blasphemy case against The Jakarta Post after the English-language newspaper on July 3, 2014, published a caricature depicting the Arabic sentence "la ilaaha illallah" (there is no God except Allah) on a flag with a skull, which is typically used to depict pirates.
The KMJ found the caricature insulting to Islam.
The Jakarta Post Chief Editor issued an apology on Thursday (Dec 11) after the Jakarta Police named him a suspect in the blasphemy case.
Suryodiningrat has been charged under Criminal Law article 156 (a) on blasphemy.
