"In essence, it is important for the government to maintain institutional values and public trust amid social changes and developments within society. The government needs to impart knowledge about the simultaneous regional elections to the constituents," Melkior Wara Mas, a data and information analyst of the Indonesian Youths Association, stated here on Saturday.
The primary task of the elections, or that of the organizers of the regional head elections, is to empower the constituents by popularizing the Law on Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (UU Pilkada) among all segment of the people, Wara Mas emphasized.
He added that the popularization of the law would increase public participation and improve the understanding and knowledge of the constituents. This would reduce, or prevent, risks such as social conflicts and the emergence of money politics.
"The move to postpone the simultaneous regional head elections should ensure concrete benefits to all parties involved, particularly the people," the analyst noted.
Therefore, the election organizers must understand the strength of peoples participation in the elections, Wara Mas remarked.(*)
